Appalachian Eats: Henry G's Cafe

Writer: anne wilsonanne wilson

Looking for your new favorite place to grab breakfast or lunch? Are you a coffee or tea snob like me that's always searching for another amazing local hot or iced brew? During the time of COVID-19, dining out is something that I keep to an extreme minimum. However, my boyfriend and I want to continue to support our local businesses in any way possible to keep our delicious culture of food thriving. We both lost our jobs in food service due to the economic impact to these small businesses. We want to do everything we can to make sure that doesn't happen to our neighbors.

Chris and I love going on brunch dates more than any other kind of date, so we're always searching for the next amazing breakfast sandwich, stack of pancakes, BLT, hot soup, and any other amazing items we can discover. While IHOP, Denny's, and Waffle House are prime franchise locations for a great meal, we prefer smaller scale, locally owned spots that serve food not only with comfort and flavor, but so much love. Keep reading to learn about our new favorite!

Located near the railroad depot in one of our neighboring towns lies this adorable spot for fresh brewed coffee and tea along with a small menu of delicious breakfast and lunch items. Chris built a breakfast sandwich on a bagel with bacon, over easy eggs, and pepper jack cheese. I chose "The Engine" as it was called on their menu, which was a delicious, fresh, hot plate of breakfast which I chose over medium eggs, bacon, and white toast. We both added sides of homefries because, well, fried potatoes are a crucial part of our love for food. We enjoyed our breakfast with some freshly brewed sweet iced tea, and on our way out of the cafe, we stopped at the coffee bar; an iced hazelnut latte for me, and a hot drip coffee for Chris.

What's the review? Absolutely outstanding! Our food was cooked perfectly, from the crispiness of the bacon to the amount of grease on the potatoes. Our egg yolks were the perfect consistency and everything turned out better than we expected!

Do you want to know what the best part of our visit to this cafe was, though? The bill. For two big breakfasts, two teas and two gourmet coffees, we only spent $22! We do our best to save money, budget, and avoid frivolous spending too much. So, when a date opportunity arises that's both affordable and of quality worth every penny, we go for it.

Have you eaten at Henry G's before? Are you considering trying them out? Share your thoughts with me about it! I can't wait to visit them again and try something else on their menu.

Thank you so much for reading my post! Be on the lookout for more amazing food spots to check out.
