Hey, friends, and welcome! Today I'm sharing a poetry chapbook that I recently ordered from Ghost City Press, written by a friend that I went to school with, Kate Belt. Kate's first edition of her chapbook was published in May 2019, and while I'm a year late to its release, it deserves more recognition than it has received thus far, as it's some of the best poetry I've read.
Easy Exit To Eleventh St. is a 24-page chapbook of thirteen original poems ranging topics including childhood, love, and friendship. As a whole, the poems connect in different ways, while also remaining individual and unique. "When I Said I Missed the 90s" is a shorter one that I consider a favorite because it takes me back to my childhood. "Love As a Balancing Act" and "Secrets" are two that remind me of love and its importance in life.
As a writer, Kate has an excellent flow with every line of her poems. From her use of alliteration to even the variety of punctuation and capitalization, the words pop off the paper and create the most beautiful, emotional visuals. As a poetry fanatic, I truly cannot recommend Kate's work enough for you to check out. Plus, it's on sale for $5.00, and I'd consider that a steal for this quality of writing.
If you order Kate's book, let me know! I'd love to hear what you think.
Don't hesitate to share any poetry recommendations with me, too!
